If clothes is a necessary for human, jeans will be the important element of clothes. Do you ever wonder the function of tiny pocket in the pair of familiar jeans you have? Here we are to discover the missing part on our garment that wasn’t known and never been discovered.
THEY’RE USEFUL!!!
The tiny pocket is known to be decoration or useless piece of fabric on the jeans as its just too small to put anything into it. However, it was properly used in late 1800’s to carry a pocket watch.

The small pocket was actually named as watch pocket because it was a safe storage for men to put their watches. The first watch pocket appeared in Levi’s first jeans “waist overalls” in 1890’s which became a big hit in that period. It wont usually appear in suit because suit jacket have its own pocket to put watches💡

“Our 19th century overalls had a single back pocket on right side of the pant beneath the leather patch,” Panek said. “It was riveted in the top two corners and included our recognizable arch design, called the Arcuate, stitched with a single needle sewing machine.” – Insider
THEY ARE STILL AROUND
Nowadays we rarely see anyone carrying pocket watches. Therefore, there’s nothing much we can do about the tiny pocket. Some people suggest to keep coins, condoms,matches, and tickets. The tiny pocket was originally made with copper-riveted jeans. This design remains until today! EXCEPT during World War II.
Levi removed the rivets of the pocket corner during WWII to conserve metal for the war effort – Panek
The rivets returned to watch pocket after the war.
